Based on the first team as it is now, what final position should we reasonably be aspiring to?
I know the window's got a few hours left, but the first team looks incredibly strong on paper already. Someone on another thread said that it's now up to the defence to stay sure. I agree with that, particularly as the midfield and (when fit) attacking line-ups look as exciting as I can remember.

Based on whatever first team Bilic chooses to field, and on the two away results so far (put the home games into the Anomaly File for now) there aren't many teams in the division who you'd say are automatically likely to beat us.

So what position is a realistic par for us this season?

Banjo, which seven teams will finish above us?

If we finished top half, with new players to settle, some of our better players out injured and a new manager still finding his feet in the PL I think they would be a good season in my eyes.

I think we're somewhere near being back in the mix with Palace, Stoke, Swansea etc. Obviously their squads are more settled and their form more consistent, so I'd still have us at the lower end of that group in terms of expectation.

Hopefully relegation is much less of a threat than it seemed after the Bournemouth loss.

I would settle for 8th, a lot of new players and these things take time.

I am very happy with the squad as it stands at 12.25pm/

Would also love a cup final appearance.

If only we could go through a season with hardly any injuries then we could challenging for 5th or 6th,but as we are always hampered by injuries 8th to 10th.

It's too early to talk about form - give that another two or three games. And both home defeats were the result of poor defending. Our midfield creativity and forward firepower must be as good as it was in 85/86, possibly better if people come back from injury and gel well.

I think we're certainly good enough for 7th - and, with luck, higher.

To finish above Spurs would be a nice touch

With the three incomers Song, Moses and the Croation Carlton Cole I think we now have a bench that competes favourably with our mid/upper mid table peer group.

Somewhere in that group is where I guess we will finish. it looks a very competitive bunch this year with some of those teams more able to take points off the top four than in the past.

6th? - hahahahaha.

First season for a new Manager with a new style and a lot of signings to intergrate; then I think top 10 would be a brilliant season.

I'd personally put us somewhere around 9th - 14th.

10th-12th

And at least one good cup run, if the draws aren't shitty to us as they usually are.

We have enough now to mount a decent challenge, assuming no huge injury crisis at any point.

It's going to be hard to keep up Man City, so we will have to settle for 2nd place. Shame, as I would have liked to have won the league for our last season at the BG.

Then again, all we need is a few snapped ligaments for Silva, De Bruyne, Ya Ya and Agüero, and 1st place is up for grabs.

...I'm pretty sure I'm only joking, but then again, this season is shaping up to be wide open, at least for 2nd place and down.

I would be happy with:

Top ten finish (for this season)
Good cup run (in both cups)
Positive, attacking and entertaining football

If we get the above this season then no reason why next year we can't attract more players to deliver a top 8 finish and so on.

As excited as I am now after our recent transfer business we still have to remember we have a new manager dealing with huge pressures. Can't get too over the top with expectation.
